Walk the Length of NZ in One Day

We are trying to walk the length of New Zealand on Thursday 17th October.  We are going to need as many as people as possible to donate their steps for the day.
We need 278 people who will walk at least 10 000 steps in the day.  If you would like to support us you can go to our Are We There Yet site and log your steps on the form.

Thanks for helping us.

Final Stop

Well we are the pool for our final stop!  Lots of smiles and hydrosliding.  There have been many first and lots of children accomplishing challenges that they have overcome.  Great work Ruma Tui!  Big thanks to all our parent helpers!! What a great experience you have helped Ruma Tui have!

Day 1 Done

After an evening of pillow fights, fan football and of course spotlight around Shantytown it has gone quiet. We have a bunch of worn out children as most are asleep already.  Fastest class ever to get to sleep!

New Apple Trees

Michael planting
We were very luck to receive 2 heritage fruit trees on Friday from Food Resilience Network in Christchurch. The varieties that we got are suitable to the high rainfall that we get on the West Coast.  Thanks again to Tessa and Micheal for delivering these to us and helping us with the planting.  We are really looking forward to looking after them and watching them grow.

If anyone in our community have any old heritage fruit trees growing on the farm or on property around the Hokitika area we would love to know about them as further on in the project we are going to learn how to graft trees.

Feeling proud of our new trees.
Staking the trees.

It's Official!

After 3 days we have finally had notice that we are the official winners of the Matific Competition.  I know that the whole school worked had to achieve the outcome and we couldn't have done it without every student doing their bit.  During the competition I saw determination, resilience, encouragement and more skills that we want our students to achieve and on top of that they also did some really great maths work.
Great work Tui, I am super proud of all that you achieved!

Melted Wax Crayon Art

This term we decided to find a new use for our old crayons that no one wanted to use.  We thought instead of throwing them out we might be able to melt them and paint with them.  We used an old electric frypan and muffin tray to melt the wax crayons.  We are really proud of our art and it is one of our favourite things we have done this term.

This is us working hard to get them finished.

Next term we will be posting on our blogs our finished work.  Make sure you come back and check them out.

Get NZ Writing

This was our first attempt at doing Get NZ Writing.  We had a lot of fun and came up with lots of words that are written all over the windows in our class.  Some of us used sticky notes and other used notely.  Here are some photos of what we did. Thanks School Kit for the awesome resource.

We took the parcel down to the office and now we are waiting to get one in the mail!!

Rippa

Was a little bit damp when Ruma Tui went out for Rippa Rugby but that didn’t dampen their spirits.  We learnt how to pass and where to pass so it makes it easier to catch.  We are all looking forward to next week.
